Facts about the Library of Congress Classification System (LCC)
It is one of the most widely used library classification systems in the world.
Most academic/university libraries use the Library of Congress Classification System;
most public libraries use the Dewey Decimal Classification System.
LCC was designed to organize and arrange large collections of library materials.
It uses letters and numbers to arranges items so they are grouped by subject.
There are 21 main classes, each identified by a letter in the alphabet.
LCC is expandable and new subclasses are added regularly.
