Wikipedia Editing

Wikipedia is a first stop for researchers and students. Libraries can help to make it a better resource!

University of New Hampshire Library facilitates a number of editor trainings and editing sessions throughout each year.

For example, in January and May we participate with library staff and librarians worldwide in 1Lib1Ref!, whose goal is for every participant to add a single reference to Wikipedia during the campaign period.

Find out more about this campaign and how to participate.

You can get a start on editing Wikipedia on your own.  You'll find lots of starter tips here.

How to Participate

  1. Create a user account. (Be sure to keep in mind Wikipedia's username policy.)
  2. Join our Wikipedia event before you begin, and your work will be counted towards our total event impact!
  3. Find an article that needs a citation. There are many ways to do this. Here are some strategies.
  4. Find a reliable source that can support that article
  5. Add a citation. Click here to learn about adding citations and editing Wikipedia
  6. Add the project hashtag #1Lib1Ref in the Wikipedia Edit Summary
  7. Share your edits on social media (@UNHLibrary and #1Lib1Ref) and learn more about libraries and Wikipedia. Grab a userbox for your user page if you're into that sort of thing.
