The organization's website should provide a significant amount of information such as

  • mission and vision
  • history
  • leadership, including executive board and/or higher-level staff
  • finances, such as sources of income and general expenditures
  • areas of interest and activities, priorities, programs (if applicable)
  • annual reports, publications and/or research (if applicable)
  • news, such as press releases, blog posts, etc.

Suggested Databases for Scholarly Articles

In addition to using the library search box and/or Google Scholar to identify relevant articles, the following specialized databases are also recommended:

You could search for articles that are about or that mention your specific organization; I recommend putting the organization name in quotation marks to keep as a phrase. You can also search for articles that more generally discuss your type of organization and how that fits in with the broader political landscape or influences the political process or the development of public policy.

Congressional Hearings - Testimony

Representatives from organizations with strong interests in certain federal legislation or topics being explored by Congress may appear as witnesses at House or Senate committee meetings. One way to determine if your organization provided testimony in this way is to use the library database below and search your organization's name in the Affiliation box of the Witness/Panelist section of the Advanced Search screen.
