The Children's History Society offers a forum for historians, educators and members of the public fascinated by the rich and diverse global histories of children and young people. This website is intended as a resource and as a network. Here you will find information on upcoming events, blog posts, items of news and links to an array of useful materials including videos created for our conferences.

The collection includes classic works that are still read by children today, and lesser-known treasures drawn from the Library’s extensive collection of historically significant children’s books. The books in this collection were published in the United States and England before 1924, are no longer under copyright, and free to read, share, and reuse however you’d like.

Working as an investigative photographer for the National Child Labor Committee (NCLC), Lewis Hine (1874-1940) documented working and living conditions of children in the United States between 1908 and 1924.

The New York Historical is a museum of museums and a collection of collections. The DiMenna Children’s History Museum invites families to connect with our country's past, present, and future through interactive displays, the Barbara K. Lipman Children's History Library, and fun programs for all ages.

Collection portrays African American children, mainly in Harlem, New York City, at home, at play, and otherwise engaged with their peers as well as posing for portraits.Photos date from the 1900s to the mid-1990s with the bulk of the images covering the 1930s to the 1960s.

The Department of Childhood Studies puts the issues, concepts and debates that surround the study of children and childhoods at the center of its research and teaching missions. Through a multidisciplinary approach, the Department of Childhood Studies aims both to theorize and historicize the figure of the Child and to situate the study of children and childhoods within contemporary cultural and global contexts.

The SHCY was founded in 2001 to promote the history of children and youth. The organization supports research about childhood, youth cultures, and the experience of young people across diverse times and places.

Boyhood Studies: An Interdisciplinary Journal is a peer-reviewed journal providing a forum for the discussion of boyhood, young masculinities, and boys’ lives by exploring the full scale of intricacies, challenges, and legacies that inform male and masculine developments. NOTE: Will cease publication as a stand-alone journal at the end of 2025.

Topics addressed within the journal include girls and schooling, girls and feminism, girls and sexuality, girlhood in the context of Boyhood Studies, girls and new media and popular culture, representation of girls in different media, histories of girlhood, girls and development.

The Journal of the History of Childhood and Youth (JHCY) is internationally recognized and publishes original peer-reviewed academic articles that engage with, and contribute to, the history of childhood and youth. Additionally, the journal publishes book reviews of the most relevant scholarship to the field.
