In the 7th edition of the APA manual, we are instructed to think of the document type, rather than the format (online, print, etc.) when determining how to write a reference for a source. This may take some adjustment for students accustomed to thinking about format first. If you need to cite a book, for example, seek out the book example, regardless of whether the book is print or digital.
