First-Generation College Student Success Initiatives
The First-Generation College Celebration (FGCC) is an annual event dedicated to raising awareness about the first-generation college student identity. It seeks to promote a positive, asset-based national narrative regarding the experiences and outcomes of first-generation students.
Since it was started in November 2017 by the Council for Opportunity in Education (COE) and the Center for First-generation Student Success, numerous higher education institutions, corporations, non-profits, and K-12 schools have participated.
This year's event features a panel of first-generation students and an interactive networking activity. Eleven campus partners will be tabling activities and resources throughout the event, and DIY professional headshots will also be set up, along with a fun first-gen selfie frame. Whether you are a first-generation college student yourself or an ally to first-gens on campus, we hope to see you there! Delicious food, fellowship, and student stories will abound.
If you are the first in your family's generation to go to college and continue to graduate school, you are a pioneer for your family. Congratulations!
We know it can be challenging, but community makes a big difference. In this networking reception, you will be able to speak with peers and faculty who share similar experiences and learn how they have been navigating graduate school and beyond.
Join us to learn, connect with others, and share your experiences over food and friendly conversation.
Food will be provided!
