First Generation College Celebration Day

About First Generation College Celebration

The First-Generation College Celebration (FGCC) is an annual event dedicated to raising awareness about the first-generation college student identity. It seeks to promote a positive, asset-based national narrative regarding the experiences and outcomes of first-generation students.

Since it was started in November 2017 by the Council for Opportunity in Education (COE) and the Center for First-generation Student Success, numerous higher education institutions, corporations, non-profits, and K-12 schools have participated. Together, they recognize and honor the accomplishments of the first-generation college community in activities held annually on November 8.

This year, the National Association of Student Personnel Administrators (NASPA) encourages participants "to leverage Celebration Day to deepen your community’s understanding of the systemic barriers plaguing higher education and the supports necessary for this resilient population to continue thriving across education, career, and life."

The events for the UNH First-Generation College Celebration will be held November 8 from 2:00 - 4:00 pm in MUB 338/340.
