Course Reserves is a collection of books and other materials owned by the library that an instructor requires students to use in a current course. The library gathers these materials together each semester and houses them on specific shelves at our circulation desks where they are available to students for short term loans (instead of any single user borrowing the item for weeks on end, while on reserve items may circulate for: 2 hours, 4 hours, 1 day, 3 days or 7 days - professors choice). Shortening the circulation timeframes for these items increases access to required material for all users. At the end of each semester, library staff remove these items from the reserve shelves, and put them back where they belong.
The library can only put materials that are a part of the library’s collection--or are personal belongings of an instructor--on reserve. The library cannot put materials from non-UNH libraries on reserve. If we do not own the requested materials, the library may attempt to purchase them.
Items are "placed on reserve" only at the request of teaching faculty/instructors for their courses. If there are no materials on reserve for a course, then the instructor has not requested this service. Requests to change reserve offerings for a course must come to the library from the instructor of the course.
