Women's History Month began in 1980 when President Carter declared the first women's history week. Soon after many states expanded the week to the whole month and eventually in 1987 Congress declared the month of March Women's History Month. Women's History Month is a time to learn about the history of women's rights both within United States History and International history. It is also a time in which important and impactful women of history can be recognized, celebrated, and honored.
The theme for 2024 is Women Who Advocate for Equity, Diversity and Inclusion.
This guide includes a list of library resources exploring the intersectionality of women's history at local, national, and international levels.
