Books

Books are good places to acquire in-depth information on a topic.

In libraries, print books are arranged by subject, so when you find a title in the stacks, browse the same shelf or shelves for related titles.

Remember: you won't necessarily be reading a book from cover to cover.

Tips:

  • Use the index in the back and table of contents in the front to find relevant information quickly.
  • Check the bibliography to find other sources of similar information.

Common call numbers for ART HISTORY and ARCHITECTURE are:

Visual arts:  N

Architecture:  NA

Sculpture:  NB

Drawing, design, illustration:  NC

Painting:  ND

Print media:  NE

Decorative arts:  NK

Arts in general:  NX

If Your Item Is Not at UNH

Interlibrary Loan (ILL) is a service (free for users) that allows libraries to borrow materials from other libraries. Use ILL when you identify an item that you need that UNH doesn't own or have access to.
