The UNH Library search box provides one-stop searching for books and e-books; articles in newspapers, journals, and magazines; and video and audio
Select the Library Catalog scope to limit to books, e-books, government publications, and videos located at the UNH Library.
In addition to books about ocean mapping, government documents and UNH theses are important resources found in the library online catalog. You can also find maps through the library catalog.
Some terms and phrases to use in keyword searches include:
Many of these terms are derived from the library catalog's subject headings. Following the links in the subject field of a catalog record is often fruitful. For instance, a book found via the keyword "ocean bottom" has the subject link "Echo sounding" which leads directly to more books on this narrower topic.
Non-journal information about the field of ocean mapping can be found in many parts of the library under many call numbers.
Books are arranged by subject so browse on the shelf for related books once you find a likely title. Many books will be under the Library of Congress classification "GC".
Government documents are a bit more complex.
Government documents are arranged by the agency that created the document so browsing will not be as effective. Similar topics can be widely scattered among agencies such as the National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration (part of Commerce Department) , U.S. Geological Survey (part of Department of the Interior), and National Science Foundation. For instance, documents from these three agencies would have call numbers beginning with C, I and N respectively.
Many US government documents older than 1976 are available in the HathiTrust Digital Library, whose records are discoverable through the library search box (rather than the library catalog).
