Click on the subjects below for sample searches of the UNH Library Catalog. You can see the difference in results with different angles on your topic. After getting your first set of search results, you can narrow your search; just click on the Limit/Sort Search Icon in the catalog:
Limiters include the library, publication year, title words, authors, format including ebooks, etc. For searching help, contact the Engineering & Physical Sciences Librarian, branch library staff, or Dimond Reference.
Most larger academic libraries use the Library of Congress (LC) classification system rather than the Dewey Decimal System. With LC, each letter of the alphabet (or two-letter combination) stands for a broad subject area, like Q for science and T for technology. A second letter provides a narrower topic: environmental engineering call numbers start with TA or TD. Catalog searches help you to find materials that are not all in one place. E-books and print books are all in the UNH Library Catalog.
When you read a call number (we use the Library of Congress system), go line by line:
TD 146 .W45
Note: .W45 acts like a decimal number. The W just keeps things in alphabetical order. So, .W45 is shelved after .W427 and before .W5

Remember, some books are available only online as e-books, so you won't see them on the shelves.
