Data Management Toolkit @ UNH

This guide provides information on effectively managing research data and developing data management plans.

RRIDs @ UNH

Research Resources Identifiers (RRID) are unique persistent identifiers used to identify and cite key research resources, such as reagents, model organisms, antibodies, software tools, core facilities, and databases. When using research resources that have been assigned a RRID, be sure to cite them by including the RRID in your publication.

You can find RRIDs using the Resource Identification Portal. RRIDs @ UNH that you may need to know include:

How researchers use RRIDs

Researchers typically cite RRIDs in the methods or materials section of a paper, often alongside the resource name or description. RRIDs may also appear in figure legends or supplementary materials. For example, include the RRID in parentheses after the resource name:

University of New Hampshire University Instrumentation Center Core Facility (RRID:SCR_021101)

Here are some ways that RRIDs support your research:

  • Clearly identify key materials. Use RRIDs to cite research resources to help ensure others can accurately replicate your work and locate the specific resource.
  • Meet journal requirements. Many journals now require RRIDs for certain resources, especially in biomedical fields. Check for guidelines or requirements before submission.
  • Improve discoverability. RRIDs link your work to the materials and tools you used, improving visibility and impact and crediting facilities.
  • Avoid misidentification. RRIDs reduce confusion by pointing to the exact version or resource you used.
  • Support open science. Citing RRIDs promotes transparency, reproducibility, and better research practices.
