Researchers need to be able to effectively communicate their work, not only with other researchers but also with the public and other non-experts. Communication with the public may take various forms, such as teaching workshops or classes, being interviewed on the radio or television, making YouTube videos, conducting citizen science projects, writing articles for newspapers or blogs, or working with K-12 students. Further, researchers may need to communicate with policy makers or elected officials to provide information on current issues. In doing these activities, researchers need to understand how to effectively communicate information about the topic in language that is accessible to the audience in a relevant way.
