CPS Online Library Research Guide (UNH Manchester Library): Government Documents

What Are Government Documents?

Government Documents - An Overview

Government documents are publications of federal and local governments, including hearings, reports, statutes, treaties, periodicals (example: Monthly Labor Review), and statistics (e.g., U.S. Census). .Government documents are published in a variety of formats: paper, microfiche, diskette, CD-ROM, and online.

This last point is important. Not all federal, state, and local government documents are available online. In some cases you will need to travel to a library or town office to find the information you need. Contact the GSC Library for help in finding government docuemnts.

Federal Depositories - Designated New Hampshire Libraries

The Federal Depository Library Program  (FDLP) was established by Congress to ensure that the American public has access to its Government’s information. GPO administers the FDLP on behalf of the participating libraries and the public. Information products from the Federal Government are disseminated to these nationwide libraries that, in turn, ensure the American public has free access to the materials, both in print and online.
