UNH Library Exhibit Reconsideration Policy

The UNH Library provides exhibit space for members of the University community to guest curate exhibits and displays on topics contributing to the broad educational mission of the library. While exhibit topics are vetted by the Associate and Assistant Deans of the UNH Library, the content of exhibits is the domain of guest curators. Specific concerns or complaints about library exhibit content should be referred to the Library Dean’s Office. The Dean of the University Library will consult with the Associate Dean of the University Library, the exhibit or display’s curator, USNH General Counsel (as appropriate) and the lead of the library’s Communication and Outreach Program to determine and execute the appropriate course of action.

The response will be determined by the specific concern and may include no change, the adjustment of wording on display text, removal of a single item, recrafting a small section of the exhibit or closing the exhibit. Exhibits enrich campus life, often by providing new perspectives and viewpoints, and in those rare instances where intervention may be called for, our approach is to make as minor an adjustment as possible that will provide the appropriate context to enhance the exhibit. Exhibits and displays will only be removed, in part of whole, if the library determines that not doing so would misrepresent facts or cause harm to exhibit or display viewers or society at large.

The Library's Associate Dean is responsible for monitoring and updating this policy as needed. Questions about this policy can be sent to ask@unh.libanswers.com.
